OMV started operating in Pakistan in 1991 and, based on successful exploration, has developed into one of the largest foreign gas producer with an 11% market share. In the beginning of 2011 OMV held two Development and Production Licenses in the Sawan and Miano fields and is producing at the Latif and Tajjal fields on an Extended Well Testing scheme. The country offers excellent growth potential supported by a good business environment and prospective, as well as underexplored acreage.

In July 2011, OMV closed the acquisition of the entire share capital of Petronas Carigali (Pakistan) Ltd, which is the Petronas' Exploration and Production (E&P) operating entity in Pakistan (press archive, press release July 12, 2011) and increased its production by about 1,000 boe/d to 15,000 boe/d. It has gained a strong strategic position within the E&P portfolio that will help OMV reach its long-term growth objectives through the robust growth potential gained from the Mubarak and Mehar exploration licenses, as well as the Mehar and Mubarak development and production leases in the Indus Basin in the center of the country.

Many of the key skills developed in Pakistan are now being used elsewhere in the global portfolio, especially as many of OMV’s Pakistani staff is passing on their knowledge through international assignments. More info at:  www.omv.com
